"Wait, Contessa!"
-Duke Chardas tossing the gold medal to the Contessa

Duke Laszlo "Quicksilver" Chardas is a character in Animalympics.

He is featured in the film's fencing segment.

Appearance[]

Duke Chardas is a flying squirrel with a short stature. He has brown fur with a cream-colored underbelly, chest fur, and snout. He wears a light blue fencing uniform with black boots, along with a dark blue-green sash. Notably, his fencing uniform also accommodates his membranes.

Personality[]

Described as "scrawny, sleight, and sacrificial" by Keen Hacksaw, Chardas is a daring and confident fencer who is quick on the draw and has cunning dexterity thanks to his natural abilities. It was his speed that earned him the nickname "Quicksilver". He also had a bit of an arrogant side, as he showed off his skill in manipulating his fencing foil. He is also a good friend of fellow Eurasian fencer, the Contessa.

Background[]

Duke Chardas, fencing for Eurasia, faced Count Maurice Boar-Deaux after the latter had defeated all other opponents in the fencing event.

As soon as the match started, Chardas used his speed to slip between Boar-Deaux's legs to get behind him and poked him in the butt with his foil. He then flew around Boar-Deaux to confuse him, and he slipped between the latter's legs again, only for Boar-Deaux to stomp on his tail and pin him. The pompous boar then wrapped the blade of his foil around Chardas', lifted him up, and slammed him onto the floor before touching his lamé. Chardas earned one point as a result of his loss.

After the Contessa defeated Boar-Deaux, Chardas picked up the gold medal, and tossed it to her.

Trivia[]

  • The given name Laszlo is Hungarian, after King-Knight Saint Ladislaus I of Hungary, and derives from Ladislav, a variant of Vladislav. This implies that Duke Chardas, like The Contessa, is Hungarian.
  • The Duke's surname was misspelled as "Charolas" in the press release of the film.[1]
